Painting Project 2 - Landscape Scene

Tina’s Water Colour Project 2 - Peaceful Landscape Scene

Welcome to Tina’s Water Colour Project 2, where children will learn how to paint a peaceful landscape with depth and atmosphere. This project guides students step by step to create a scenic view featuring a bright sky, soft mountains, a winding road disappearing into the distance, a tall tree in the foreground, and trees lining the horizon.

This lesson is perfect for young artists who are ready to build on their skills and try painting a complete scene that uses perspective. Tina shows exactly how to create the feeling of distance by using lighter colours for the background and richer details in the foreground.

Supporting Teachers
Many students may not have painted a landscape like this before. Tina’s clear, friendly instructions break everything into manageable steps—sketching the basic layout, layering washes of colour, and adding details such as tree textures and shading on the road.

Tips for Presenting This Project
To help everyone get the most from the lesson, Tina strongly recommends using the “Play and Pause” method. Play a short section of the video, pause to allow each child time to complete that step, and then continue. This approach keeps everyone together and gives children space to concentrate without feeling rushed.

Here are a few ideas to prepare for a successful painting session:

Show the finished example at the start so children can see how their work will develop.

Talk briefly about how things look lighter and less detailed in the distance—this helps them understand how to create depth.

Encourage children to mix and test colours before applying them to their project page.

Remind everyone that their landscape will be unique—no two paintings will look exactly the same.

Have tissues ready for lifting out clouds or correcting small drips.

By the end of the session, your students will have created their own beautiful landscape painting while learning about perspective, composition, and colour blending. Most importantly, they’ll gain confidence and discover the joy of painting nature scenes in watercolour. Enjoy the project—and remember: Play and Pause often to help everyone succeed!
